In 1800, when Jane was nearly 25, her parents decided to move to Bath. Her father had retired, and her brother James had taken over the livings of Steventon and Deane. Possibly, Jane's parents felt that she and her sister Cassandra would meet more eligible men in Bath than found their way to small villages in Hampshire.
