Church of St. Nicholas at Steventon
Austen's father, the Rev. George Austen, was rector of two small churches in Hampshire.
Site of the Rectory, near Steventon Village
The family lived in the Rectory, a short walk from St. Nicholas. The building was taken down shortly after Jane's death. Its site is marked by a fenced pump. The grounds are now a cow pasture (with a rabbit warren included).
Deane
Rev. Austen also served All Saints' Church at Deane, very close to Steventon. Unlike St. Nicholas, All Saints' was substantially renovated in the nineteenth century. Deane House, immediately beside the church, was the home of the Harwood family, whom the Austens often visited.
